Two Moslem youths attacked Haga’on Harav Binyomin Jacobs, Chief Rabbi of the Netherlands, chairman of Holland’s Vaad Harabbanim, and member of the Rabbinical Council of the Rabbinical Centre of Europe. The rabbi was unharmed.

The incident occurred this past Monday in Amsterdam. Rabbi Jacobs related that when he entered a gas station to fill his car, he noticed two Moslem youths watching him from their car. He stopped and got out to fill his car with gas, while keeping an eye on those youths.

The rabbi finished and was about to get back into his car when he noticed that the youths’ car was speeding toward him in an attempt to run him over.

“The two youths were following me the whole time,” the Rav related, “but I didn’t show that I was concerned. The moment I got back to my car, they drove their car toward me. Miraculously, I jumped back at the last moment, and they fled the scene.”

Immediately afterward, Rabbi Jacobs reported the incident to the police, who took it very seriously and promised to catch the perpetrators.

In a conversation with our reporter, Rabbi Jacobs said, “There is no question that there is anti-Semitism in Holland, and the government is fighting it. I do my best to protect myself and pay attention to anyone who appears suspicious.”

“We take this matter very seriously,” said RCE Deputy Director Rabbi Aryeh Goldberg. “It is one more incident in the wave of anti-Semitism in Europe, about which we’ve been warned a number of times. The European Union must condemn this incident and must work to eradicate anti-Semitism in Europe by enacting laws and taking action.”

It should be noted that this is not the first time Moslems have harassed Rabbi Jacobs. Six months ago, during Operation Protective Edge, his house was attacked with a barrage of stones and badly damaged. The incident took place at 5 a.m. A week earlier, some people threw stones at the rabbi’s house while calling out anti-Semitic slogans. Following that first incident a security camera was installed at Rabbi Jacob’s house.
