Rabbi Yisrael Yaakov Lichtenstein

Rabbi Yisrael Yaakov Lichtenstein Rabbi Lichtenstein was born in 5714/1954 in Boston, Massachusetts. Until he reached bar mitzvah age, he attended the Lubavitch School in Boston, after which he studied in the New York yeshivos of Mir, Beis Hatalmud and Torah Vodaath. He then traveled to Eretz Yisrael to learn in Yeshivas Brisk in Yerushalayim. Later, he returned to the U.S. to study in Lakewood, where he married his wife, Renee Kagan from Chicago. The Lichtensteins have eight children, b’li ayin hara.
After his marriage, Rabbi Lichtenstein studied in the Mir kollel for ten years and received semichah in rabbanus and dayanus from Rabbi Mordechai Savitsky, Rabbi Moshe Halberstam, Rabbi Yitzchak Kolitz and Rabbi Beinish Finkel. Rabbi Lichtenstein has apprenticed Rav Moshe Halberstam and Rav Eliezer Waldenberg. He is also an expert shochet and was certified as a mashgiach kashrus by Rabbi Avraham Roth of the Eidah Hachareidis. In addition, he received a bachelor’s degree in political science from New York University.
In 1988 Rabbi Lichtenstein was appointed Av Beis Din of the Federation of Synagogues in London, a position he still holds today.
