Dutch Chief Rabbi Receives Honour from the Queen9 Iear 5772 01/05/2012 This morning, Rabbi Binyomin Jacobs, Chief Rabbi of the Inter-Provincial Cheif Rabbinate in Holland and member of the Rabbinical Centre of Europe, was made an Officer of the Order of Orange-Nassau, one of the highest civilian awards given by the Queen of Holland. The honour is usually given to princes of other royal families in Europe, diplomats, artists, and social activists. It is the first time in the history of the Dutch Jewish community where a rabbi has received this honour.

Former Chief Rabbi Yisrael Meir Lau shared his memories of the Holocaust with the hundreds of rabbanim attending the conference, and he expressed how thrilled he was at seeing the rebirth of European Jewry, which is, in large part, thanks to the activities of the RCE. Chief Rabbi Yitzchak Yosef, the Rishon Letzion, spoke of his admiration for the RCE rabbis’ work with European Jewish youth, and for the construction and renovation of scores of mikvaos throughout Europe.
